Why this museum exists
A reptile's appearance can be captivating, but keeping one responsibly also means understanding lifespan, space, temperature, humidity, food and access to veterinary care. Scalescape brings those foundations together in Chinese and English: a gentler starting point for newcomers and a place for experienced keepers to continue checking sources. It is not a shopping guide and cannot replace diagnosis from an exotic veterinarian.
How the information is prepared
Taxonomy, scientific names and ranges are checked against specialist resources such as The Reptile Database. Husbandry and welfare begin with RSPCA guidance, exotic-veterinary material and public research. Each species Sources tab retains original links and image licences wherever possible. Numeric guidance varies between sources and should be treated as a starting point, then adjusted through observation of the individual animal.
Images and keeper experience
Images help readers recognise shape, pattern and behaviour. When a creator and licence can be identified, we retain that information; genuinely uncertain authorship is marked Unknown and updated or addressed when a rights holder contacts us. Keeper experience drawn from public discussion is labelled Unverified and should be weighed against reliable guidance, the animal's condition and advice from an experienced exotic veterinarian.
If Scalescape has helped you
Scalescape is meant to remain a small museum anyone can visit freely. Research, image preparation and keeping the site running take ongoing time and expense. If something here has sparked your curiosity or helped you understand these remarkable animals a little better, you are welcome to offer a little support whenever it feels right. Every contribution helps the collection keep growing and remain open to more readers. However you take part, by reading, sharing, spotting an error or simply spending a quiet moment with an image, thank you for giving this museum a reason to continue.
